Mixed media on salvaged wood. The grain here runs in concentric curves — this is a section through a tree, not a plank. The curved grain follows the form of the piece. Raw umber and dark brown pigments concentrate in the recessed areas; the raised wood reads lighter. McConnell stops the car for ‘FREE’ piles: this piece records a specific tree.
